In the History Channel's new 2009 T.V. series, Nostradamus Effect, the episode The Three Secrets of Fatima concerning the miracle of Our Lady of Fatima is covered during an hour-long documentary. In this episode, all three secrets are explored. This article covers the information about the third secret, according to the History Channel.
Three children witnessed six miraculous apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary between May and October of 1917 in Fatima, Portugal. This miracle is commonly known as Our Lady of Fatima, and is officially recognized by the Catholic Church as a blessed miracle.
Mother Mary revealed three secrets to the children over time, the third secret was to remain hidden until the death of Sister Lucia.
Sister Lucia's Letter Containing the Third Secret of Fatima
Lucia Santos survived her two cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, into adulthood. Lucia joined the convent and 1941, the Catholic Bishop Leiria ordered her to write a memoir detailing the third secret of Fatima.
According to the History Channel, this letter was sealed and Sister Lucia requested that the secret not be revealed until 1960 or after her death. On April 4th, 1957, the letter was placed in the Secret Archives of the Holy Office at the Vatican for safekeeping.
The letter containing the third secret of Fatima was sealed in the Vatican Vault for decades. According to the History Channel, the letter has been periodically opened then resealed throughout its history.
Controversy Surrounds Sister Lucia's Letter
Only 20-25 lines of the letter containing the third secret of Fatima were released to the public on June 26, 2000. Some believe that not all of the prophecy was revealed.
Is this sensationalism or is this fact? Does the Catholic Church hide dangerous truths in order to protect itself? Does the third secret refer to the destruction of the Catholic Church due to its corruption? Does the third secret of Fatima prophecy the details of the threat of nuclear war? These questions are asked in the History Channel's Nostradamus Effect documentary, Three Secrets of Fatima.
Consecration of Russia, Consecration of All Nations Unto God by Pope John Paul II
After the first assassination attempt on his life, Pope John Paul II performed the "Act of Entrustment," a formal, public prayer in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major on June 7th, 1981, and again in Fatima, Portugal on May 13th, 1982. The text of this "Act of Entrustment" can be found posted on the Vatican website.
According to Catholics, this prayer consecrated Russia, and in fact all of mankind, unto Mary's Heart.
According to the Blessed Virgin Mary's prophecy, the consecration of Russia, and indeed, all human hearts and all nations to God and to Mary's heart is all that is needed to save the world. Exercising free will, the will to choose love, to choose compassion, to choose the light of God will bring heaven on earth and further the salvation of mankind's souls.
This episode of the Nostradamus Effect still has the undercurrent of the theme of the end of the world, consistent with the other episodes. However, the Catholic overtones and the message of hope at the end of the T.V. show make this episode, The Three Secrets of Fatima, stand as an exception with its positive message.
