Mayan calendar, Hopi Indian prophecies, Hindu predictions, astrophysicists and a modern American Shaman all point to the year 2012 as the end date of human civilization.

History Channel's Nostradamus Effect is a new series in 2009 that looks for evidence of theories that reveal the convergence of current events corresponding with past predictions. The disclaimer at the beginning of each episode is the following:

"We will neither refute nor endorse these theories, but merely present the evidence."

Much is covered in each one-hour episode of the Nostradamus Effect, with quotes from interviews with experts, scientists, theologians, and authors.

In the episode "2012 Extinction," History Channel asks, "Will the world be annihilated in 2012?" An examination of cultures and philosophies all over the world and throughout time reveal that 2012 may be an important date to human civilization.

Mayan Calendar Ends in the Year 2012

The Mayans were obsessed with astronomy and developed a unique calendar based on complex cosmic factors involving astronomical alignments and the evolution of human consciousness.

“They saw clocks within clocks, cycles within cycles. They are the timekeepers of everything,” according to Lawrence E. Joseph, one of the authors interviewed for the Nostradamus Effect and other History Channel documentaries.

According to many Mayan calendar experts, the long count ends on the winter solstice, December 21, 2012.

Hopi Indian Prophecies Foretell of the End of the Fourth World

Imagery on the famous Hopi Prophecy Rock breaks down human time line into phases, or worlds. According to Hopi Indian beliefs, humans now inhabit the fourth world and are entering into the fifth.

The Day of the Great Purification is upon humankind, according to experts, as two prophesies have come to pass: "cobwebs in the sky," referring to the world wide web; and "man will bring home pieces of the moon," referring to the moon landing in 1969.

Ancient Hindu Yuga Cycles Correspond to Mayan Calendar Timing

The end of the Kali Yuga cycle closely corresponds to the Mayan calendar, according to History Channel.

Hindu sacred texts refer to human spiritual evolution in terms of Yugas, or cycles. There are four cycles that track human manifestation and growth as well as devolution and dissolution. The cycles track the rise and fall of civilizations, the progress of human spirituality, and the natural pulsations of the universe of contraction and expansion.

Astrophysicists, Scientists Confirm Natural Disasters Imminent in 2012

In the "2012 Extinction" episode, History Channel asks the question, will the world end in cosmic chaos, deadly radiation, pole reversal, and other geological disasters?

In this episode, the overdue and imminent eruption of supervolcanoes, cataclysmic earthquakes, tsunamis and other geological disasters are briefly explored as possible endings to human civilization.

While the specific date of December 21, 2012 is not mentioned by scientists, astrophysicists and NASA analysts are in consensus that solar flares are due to culminate in the year 2012.

Terrence McKenna's Time Wave Theory Climaxes in 2012 as End Date

American shaman, Terrence McKenna and brother Dennis McKenna (PhD., Univ. Minnesota) made a trip to the Columbian Amazon as a quest for the spiritual holy grail. The brothers combined psychedelic drugs, Chinese philosophy, alchemy and complex mathematics to create charts inspired by the patterns that the I-Ching reveal.

Terrence McKenna's life’s work is the famous “Time Wave Theory,” which climaxes in 2012. Some say is genius, others criticize as psychedelic drug trip nonsense.

Web Bot Predictions for 2012

The web bot program is a computer application that searches the entire world wide web for trends in keywords using linguistic analysis. Some experts say that the web bot program accurately predicted the September 11, 2001 tragedy, the Hurricane Katrina tragedy, the 2008 stock market crash and the recent housing market collapse.

Some suggest that the internet is a repository of humankind's own psychic predictions. Trend reports from the web bot program point to 2012 as an end date, a significant date for humans.

History Channel's two-hour special, "The Next Nostradamus" goes into more detail about the web bot predictions.

Marie D. Jones, author of 2012: End of Days explains that “we are so out of touch with the natural cycles.” Whereas the Mayans were deeply in-tune and connected with nature, the cosmos, cycles, and astronomical alignments.

The conclusion of the episode of "2012 Extinction" talks of hope for the future in the Global Seed Vault project in Northern Europe that contains 2 billion frozen seeds for rebuilding and surviving an apocolypse. 4.5 million distinct varieties of seeds have been stored in the frozen tundra in a safe vault.

"2012: Time for Change"
projects a radical alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom. Directed by Emmy Award nominee Joao Amorim, the film follows journalist Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the bestselling 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, on a quest for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic wisdom of tribal cultures with the scientific method. As conscious agents of evolution, we can redesign post-industrial society on ecological principles to make a world that works for all. Rather than breakdown and barbarism, 2012 will herald the birth of a regenerative planetary culture, where collaboration replaces competition, where exploration of psyche and spirit becomes the new cutting edge, replacing the sterile materialism that has pushed our world to the brink.
